RE: AC(current) 5er stereo option

I bought a nice Pioneer surround sound receiver from Walmart for $169. I used my existing surround speakers and it even sounds good using them. Dave

RE: help! how to tie down 5th wheel for for Hurricane Ike

They make screw or auger type anchors that you could screw into the ground and then use cables to tie to the frame. I would put one on each corner. Check your hardware store. If they don't have them they could probably tell you where you might get them. Dave I found a site that will give you an idea of what I am talking about. They are called mobile home anchors. http://www.generalsupplyinc.net/ct_PR486012.htm

RE: Emergency window

"Under no circumstance will that window open on it's own". That is what the dealership told me after mine blew out on my last 5'er. They even called my wife a liar when she said that she had checked that it was closed. That was a few years ago but boy did that p--- me off. After that we just put a strong "chip clip" on the handle in the closed position and no more problems, Dave

RE: Locking 5th wheel so can't be stolen

Do you really think these thieves were just riding around with a torch in their truck and decided to steal the fifth wheel? NOT. These guys scouted that fifth wheel and planned to steal it. The only way to stop them is to make it make it appear real inconvenient for them to get away with your rig. Dave

RE: Is this common?

I have a friend who just bought an Everest and he has rows of spider cracks. It turns out the interior screws were too long and protruding into the fiberglass. Dave

RE: Strange boat trailer - can it be fixed?

I just looked up several boating sites and the magic number for boats is about 7% tongue weight for a single axle trailer. But most also said the best thing to do is tow it and see how it performs. If it fishtails you need more tongue weight. Personally, I have a 3,000# boat and I know the tongue weight is no where near 300# maybe under 200#, and it tows great. Dave

RE: Monument Lake Campground Colorado

Interesting. I grew up about 100 miles from there and never knew it existed. It is located in a very pretty mountainous area. I will have to look into camping there. Dave

RE: OOOPS! Spilled Grape Juice On Carpet

Hitchhiker must have a really good carpet. A friend of mine has had several accidents(spills) and flooded his floor twice and the carpet still looks like new. He has an '04. Dave

RE: Fair price for a two year old new trailer

Look up the high retail price on NADA for the 07 and try to get them somewhere in the ballpark of that figure. You can ignore the list price, that was gone when the 08's came out. Dave

RE: Pack Rats

The first year I was in Havasu I got a pack rat. He didn't tear anything up, just stashed some pumpkin seeds throughout the rig. I cleaned up after him and then put two of those electric varmit devices one at the front and one at the rear of my fifth wheel. Never saw signs of any critters again. Dave

Qualifications? I taught auto shop for 23+ years. Turned all kinds of kids into motorheads just like you! I know where you are coming from, but I learned a long time ago not to make broad generalizations. There are no winners. Dave

RE: One for the Enviromentalists

you never said anything was differtent between your 2 trucks. just that your 04 got worse mileage. considering all new trucks with DPF get worse millage than previous years models i think he was making a very accurate assumption. You guys crack me up sometimes. You get on your high horse and preach about someting you have no knowledge about. If you had a Duramax, you would know that the new models now have more horsepower and torque and sixth gear. Also, how can you say all new trucks with DPF get worse mileage than previous year models. Mine doesn't. If you want to preach to us, back it up with some facts. Also, I looked at turtle n peeps posts and he is driving a 93 or so tow vehicle. Why are you and he replying to my post about a Duramax when you have no personal experience with one? Dave Dave

RE: One for the Enviromentalists

Turtle n peeps That is a great attitude to say something is wrong with the 04. Was it the first thing that popped into your mind. Before you make statements you ought to take into consideration things like more torque/horsepower while pulling a large load and oh yeah, how about that extra gear I have now. I can travel highway speeds now easily saving a few hundred RPM's. And the 04 averaged the same as all my buddies who own a DAs. Dave

RE: new computer - "microsoft easy transfer"???

Mine hung up also. I ended up deleting the file it was stuck on. The file was an old word processing file that I hadn't looked at for years. Dave
